gadgets.ie

I love little gadgets and ideas. The most obsessed ones I am into are  IT gadgets but every new and cute inventions are interesting to me. I have found a cool Irish website about reviewing gadgets. It is called www.gadgets.ie

A very well built site with rich content. You can find here reviews about outdoor gadgets, games, retro gadgets, eco gadgets, office gadgets, audio gadgets with competitions and giveaways.

Here are two short examples from their reviews. As we travel a lot and we like camping, this compact pocket stove called Optimus Crux seems to be a perfect gadget for us.:) The review written on gadgets.ie is just perfect. Detailed description, some photos.....photos are very important I think.... and information about prices.

stove

Other funny review is about a Mini Skateboard from Karnage. A cool gadget for youngsters and I guess review websites like these are especially for them :) The gadgets.ie site is really aware of the new trends. The site is fully social media integrated with share and link and + buttons.

mini_skateboard_005

The mini skateboard is really cool. Superlight...about 2.5 lb and not really fragile, you can abuse it which is important for a gadget like this - unbreakable.

Other similar gadget website is T3.com. This is more about technology. Gadgets like phones, laptops, IT tools and tech news. The reviews and news available there are rather my style, again it is a great feature. I like their article about the future gadgets and the flexible touchscreen has really moved my fantasy.

Reminiscing Rome

Waiting at the Ciampino Airport for four hours was no joke. We were 'strapped' there because the staff issuing the tickets for the city bus made a mistake. Better to say she was given a chart that was with a flight schedule which was not updated:( so the 'wrong timings' were given to us.

We watched this sunset with a lot of migratory birds above our heads. It looked speckled in black spots but they are actually birds! It was really amazing watching this with the beautiful orange coloured sunset:) One almost hit me right on my face as it was right before I moved a step out. But no escape. I got some 'present' (ie birds' dropping) on my left shoulder.

With so many hours at the airport, we had another Foccacia sandwich;) Zannnie bought a new book about Rome called "Rome Past and Present, with Reconstructions of Ancient Monuments" - R.A. Staccioli. She likes it as it was a book overlaid with acetate illustrations, which shows how they looked in their heydays. This method of relating the ruins to their original selves is amazing:)

Independent Music Promotions - Interview

James Moore (Vancouver, Canada) is the author of the popular music marketing book: "Your Band Is A Virus" and the CEO of Independent Music Promotions. We made a short interview with him.

Independent_Music_Promotionsscreen

Which is more challenging: being a CEO of Independent Music Promotions or being an author writing about how to market music? Why?

Neither is overly difficult as long as I manage my time properly. At Independent Music Promotions, I simply build relationships with both the music media as well as the independent bands I promote. I work hard to show respect to the industry people and give them the materials they require to make their lives easier. I also endeavour to go above and beyond for any artist I work with, whether it’s as their promoter or just writing a music review. As far as writing articles and books, that happens when I’m on a roll. I can write a book in 2-3 days if I’m inspired and there is new information that really has me excited.

How can indie artists best promote themselves?

Indie artists can promote themselves by trying everything. Many artists back themselves into a corner by making rash judgements on elements of the music industry or complaining that album sales are down. It’s these perspectives that will keep you dormant as a promoter. The best things to do are to, first of all, have a professional product. Then, get it organized. Upload your music to Bandcamp, Reverbnation, etc. Get a proper bio and press shots. Make your album easy to get for reviewers. Next, contact people about your music. People who may be able to help you. This could be venue bookers, newspaper editors, music bloggers, magazines, podcasts, etc. It goes on and on. The main thing is to keep it simple and personal, approach them with respect, and do this thousands of times. It takes time but there are thousands of other bands doing it so you need to either reach out to the press or someone else will get that press.

Music cross borders. Do you think that applying the same methodology used to promote the same genre of music works in Canada as well as in the other countries like Taiwan and China?

I think that the same principles are true, yes. Both musicians and music media want to be respected and they want good music to persevere. Tactics and protocol may differ but there will always be rules that can be broken.

What are the three important things an Indie artist should possess?

Determination, talent, and work ethic.

Which is the best indie artist/music have you ever promoted? How popular did it become?

I have met many great independent artists through the blog, and couldn’t choose a favourite although I absolutely love Katrin the Thrill, Countless Thousands, Pewee in the Garage, A Heinous Grey, DJ Black Panther, and Monks of Mellonwah. All these artists are moving forward very well in their music careers. There are some very talented artists at Independent Music Promotions of all genres.

Social advertising - linknami

Many bloggers try to make some pocket money from their blogs. Beside blogging, building a small community is also a motivation for blogging. My experience is that smart, talented bloggers can make even relevant money from blogging, especially if they live in a country where $5-10 is already a considerable amount for a load of work.

The easiest way to generate money is to insert some ads, for example google ads which is naturally offered by google. That is really a pocket money only, more effective way is to find your own advertisers. But this is very time consuming and being at the lower end of the long tail, most likely, your blog will not be the optimal solution for a powerful advertiser.

The optimal solution might be to find a marketplace where advertisers and publishers are brought together. Linknami is a marketplace like this. You can sign up both as advertiser or publisher with your blog/website and then after doing the basic settings, all you have to do is taking care of your content.

Linknami

One of the advantages of Linknami is that it is fully social media integrated. You can earn money not only with your blog but with the related twitter and facebook accounts too. This is the future, I guess. What are the ways to advertise on your blog?

  • You can publish text links or text ads
  • You can place a banner to your site
  • You can allow contextual links
  • Or you can write/publish articles in certain topics.
Being paid for blogging is not a sin. And if you are clever enough you can make your passion to be your money making opportunity as well.

Guided meditation

I like moments for myself. The early morning, right after waking up, I need some minutes to relax. To be alone deep in my mind. Its like I am still sleeping or being on halfway to the real world.

I need moments like this right before stressful events. When I have an important speech somewhere. For example on a conference. I prefer to move away, if it is possible to the balcony or to the roof, seeking for fresh open air. Relaxing. Some minutes like this are worth of sleeping an hour.

guided_meditation

I think meditation is what I need to survive my routine of the everydays. Of course the best would be to move to Japan or to Tibet to be amongst Buddhist monks but I am a European having a totally different culture. One of the westernized way of meditation is the guided meditation with some music or even with instructors.

A meditation like this can help you to achieve an inner piece and to step into a world which is basically far from the western culture. We do not like to be in silence. Doing nothing has no value but in meditation doing nothing means that we listen to ourselves instead of leading away our attention to the world outside.

Using the method of guided meditation might be a first step into a world that may ease our everydays.

Special Invention: Elizabeth Anne Shoes

I love boots and have been shopping for boots ever since I moved to Europe. While surfing online, I found the first revolutionary boot with hidden pockets. It is really useful to have these hidden pockets and I imagine using these boots when I want to shop without bring my purse, or go to the disco without the hassle of holding any handbags. As my husband and I love to travel, sometimes, it seemed the going out anywhere empty handed is impossible. However, these patent-pending newly designed boots with pockets will change these situations completely.

boots

Purse n' Boots is the first of its kind, like a purse for our feet. It is knee-height is so ideal for cold winter days when you will be in a winter coat which itself is rather heavy for a lady. These boots not only reduce the amount of weight you bring along while walking in the snow or cold climate, its classic design gives it a leg lengthening effects that is really great for asians like myself. The thick rubber sole is also very comfortable for traction. I love the leather boots as this material is very reliable, soft and durable too.

boots2

If you want to imagine the size of the pocket on the left boot, it can hold an iPhone. Imagine that thickness and size of pocket within your boot, it makes it really practical with the right boot that has slots for your credit cards. Next is a bottom pouch to hold up a house key. I think if you plan to dance the whole night through, that is about all that you need to bring with you. You can now dress up stylishly, handsfree, enjoy the entire night dancing away.

Easy techniques to improve memory

If you are finding out the truth about better ways to remember anything, here's something for you about our minds. Some people say as we age, our memory loss and somehow deteriorates. Well, I guess it largely depends on the person as our memory can be improved by visualization techniques. One of which is the Silva Method that enhances our recall abilities. Others like The Three Fingers technique is a memory tool during the relaxed state of mind.

memory

Alpha state is a calm mental state that recreates the entire memory from smells to sounds. Learning to focus, learning to engage at social situations helps you remember a person and the things about them. An important benefit of mastering this mental skill is it creates a better life for you as you can remember information better and builds your self-esteem. Moreover, it helps to solve problems in your life.

Using the Glass of Water technique, your subconscious mind can come up with a solution and thus triggers an entire brain creativity. It is when both your brain's hemispheres are communicating better in this alpha brainwave state of which when they are both working together that solves a problem. Unconstrained creativity together with practical logic reduces the stress and frustrations. It is important to have the correct thought process, because being in the receptive mental states helps you to 'let go' and leading you to a higher level of intelligence. Relax and perhaps a dream or an insight that is only in a flash offers a solution. You may also reverse-engineer the problem by working backwards and ALLOWING the solution to come to you by believing a solution to the problem does exist.

Iridescent blue-gray upper wings of darting Mallow Scrub-Hairstreak

Explore Dec 21, 2011 #23

Tiny doesn't begin to describe this delightful gray, orange-eye spotted butterfly! Albert and I have been looking for one for months and today he screamed out..." I think I got a Hairstreak!" At the same moment I yelled, "Over here There are two on this plant!"

This Hairstreak's full wing span is only 9/10 of an inch! Be sure to notice the two tail-like extensions on the wings. And the whimsical pattern of black spots outlined in white and their white hairy wing edges. They fly rapidly, flitting from side to side or in circles which make it difficult for human eyes to follow them!

Wait till you see the brilliant blue of its upper open wings!

Waltheria indica is a species of flowering plant in the mallow family, Malvaceae. Its crinkly leaves are minty-green, thick and juicy. Its yellow flowers are tiny and almost inconspicuous! Keep in mind this is 10 times magnification! The image below gives a better perspective.

Interview with David Urmann

David Urmann the founder of touristlink.com -

davidUrmann_ceo

Our team launched public beta in version on the website in October 2011 after seeing a need for a marketplace that let travelers request the exact services they need and get multiple offers from travel providers. The Touristlink marketplace is seamlessly built into a content rich social platform where travelers can interact with each other and with local businesses. Transactional trust is driven by allowing direct interaction with providers and letting members see reviews from other customers. Travel providers get free leads which may evolve from initial information requests, to reservations, to follow-up reviews, and customer loyalty.

touristclick

What was it that inspired you before setting up TouristLink?

I travel a lot and a hard time finding services I needed and connecting with the locals who provided these services. I remember one time being in China and looking for a translator and I thought how much easier if I could find a website where they had profiles and I could see reviews from other customers.

How many countries and destinations have you personally travelled?

I have been to over 40 countries. I moved from the United States to India to start a business. I wrote a guide book on the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in Utah back in 1999. I have always been passionate about sharing travel information.

What do you think are the most important aspects about travel planning using today's technology?

I think that all the major travel sites do a poor job of delivering travel content and making it useful to the visitor. Its like we are still in the 1990’s and the travel industry isn’t really taking advantage of how the technology can be used to display the content and make it useful. I think we are in the right direction with Touristlink but that we have a lot more to do to make it really useful to the visitors. I might now where I want to go but it is hard to find the things around me that are really most practical to do. For instance if I want to go surfing in Thailand I can find the info but no one site tells me what beaches are good time of year – instead I have to research each one myself and then decide. I think a traveler should easily be able to find this information in this day and age but it is still difficult. Maybe the reason is the big companies see content as simply a strategy and they don’t have a passion for it like we do at Touristlink.

What are the loop holes in the current travel industry that your service is able to cover?

Its very hard to book things like tours and services. This is illustrated by the fact that over 65% of these services are still booked over the telephone. We hope to provide a service that brings these transactions online and make it easier for everyone.

How differentiated are your services compared to those that are existing in the market today?

We are more of a social site. This is valuable to the travel provider as he can customize his offers just buy reviewing the profile of the member. Most of our competitors are afraid to even share the contact information of the person or company you are buying the service. I don’t believe that inspires much trust.

Why is transactional trust so important to travel consumers that it became an emphasis of your service?

People want to know who they are dealing with and what types of experiences that other people have had with them before buying or engaging in a transaction. We are setting Touristlink up so that this is easy for members to do and everything is transparent.

Vacation in California

In my country, California sounds like a super-exotic destination. One of the symbols of the USA with sunshine, surfing, very blue ocean, palms and America itself. When I was a child, this country was unavailable for us. California was like a dream that maybe even doesn't exist.

Joshua Tree National Park:
California

First time I heard about Joshua Tree was from the album of the U2. It had been my favorite album from them. But Joshua Tree is also a National Park in California on 800,000 acres of land.

Interestingly, even if most of us have never been there, everything sounds so familiar in California. San Francisco with the Golden Gate bridge, Hollywood and Los Angeles itself, Palm Spring, San Diego, Sacramento. We knew these places from the movies. Are they really like this?

Palm Spring:
California

I am almost 40 and I have never been to the US. Ok, once I was flying over it when I travelled from Amsterdam to Mexico City. But I do not consider it as a trip to the US even if I saw Chicago, Houston and the middle part of the US in between.

Nowadays we do not need VISA anymore to enter the US. So, I think its time to prepare our very first vacation to the sunny California. I have decided that if one day I will have the opportunity to travel there I will focus on the tiny details. I wanna know the differences between the movies and the reality.

Those famous really red apples:

California

If California is really like this we have to go there!!:) 2012 will be our California Vacation time!

MKV to DVD converter

I think the age of large movie studies is over. For almost a century they have monopolized the movie industry. Technologically it was very difficult and expensive to create movies and you needed the power of studios to do all the promotions.

Now a days the gadgets of the everydays like mobile phones or compact cameras are perfect to capture digital videos and with some smart programmes which you can edit your own DVD with subtitles and music and everything. All you need is really just a phone, an editor on your computer and a facebook or twitter profile to share.

MKVtoDVD

MKV to DVD is exactly a gadget like this. You can edit and convert any type of videos to high quality DVDs. Doesn't matter if your phone/camera is using MKV, WMV, ASF, MP4, H261, AVI, MPEG, DAT, VOB or DV this powerful DVD creator will be able to handle them.

The editing tools are really easy. Before, I gave up many video editors because I didn't feel like spending hours to learn how to handle them. I need easy and quick solutions as I have only limited time for editing. Lately, videos are not exclusive products of a profession. Everyone who has a cellphone with camera is a potential cameraman and everyone who has a little creativity can be a real movie maker with the help of these gadgets.

And I love this creative future:)

Interview with Yung Wun

Well the question is who is Yung Wun? That seems to be the question of the hour. Inspired by Icons of Rap and Hip Hop like Biggie Smalls, Tupac, and DMX rapper Yung Wun p.k.a James Carlton Anderson began performing for the underground scene of Atlanta, Georgia. Hailing from one of the toughest and grittiest neighborhoods in the A.T.L., East Lake Meadows housing project (Lil Vietnam), Yung Wun combines his experiences and talents to produce a sound all his own.

Ruff Ryders - Ryde Or Die Vol. 3 (In The ''R'' We Trust)

As "Tear It Up" is only the second single on his debut album but has hit several peak positions on the U.S. Billboard Hot Charts, what is the secret to your success?

Dedication and hard work.being true to who I am.

The dramatic, marching-band beat is incredible. In a few words, what were your experiences like when working together with prominent rappers like DMX, Lil' Flip and David Banner?

Amazing and it was an honor.

Southern hip hop or 'Southern rap' is the third major American hip hop genre, do you foresee yourself trying out the other genre or musical expression? Why?

I am also a crossover rapper I can do the frenchie raps and all I make music worldwide. I make feel good music.

You have a very unique stage name 'Yung Wun' for a rapper, how did you come up with this name or what was the inspiration?

It is a Ruff Ryder secret lol

If you can have it your way for the future, who would you like to work with on the upcoming albums together with NWG/Thomas PR Group 1 ?

I love Thomas pr group /NWG . Creepa and Tara are great people. Shout out to all the gs and gents. Ladies you already know. I would love to work with wacka, trey songs, zo, Dmx, jeezy, T.I so many to name.

Like most youngsters from Lil Vietnam, Yung Wun during his early years fell into a life of crime. Undaunted by these encounters with the criminal justice system Yung Wun continued on this path until he developed his art-form, which became an outlet for him and eventually led to positive change feed and nurtured by his grandmother, Vera.

This change brought extreme happiness and pride to his grandmother who for many years pleaded with Yung to get out of the streets. She undoubtedly heavily influenced him as a young man, her words of wisdom informed life changing decisions, and Lady Vera would see this radical transformation in her grandson before passing away in his arms. Yung began using rhyming as a form of release for frustrations. He won several writing and oratory contest and his career as a lyricist begun.

His career as Rapper began with the same lessons as many artists, that is, the corporate beast that occupies the music industry and attempts to eat young rappers. Despite this the young artist was not deterred and eventually signed with Dark Society in 1998, an Atlanta based record company. This team completed a project, pitched it to Swizz Beatz, who immediately signed Yung to his label Full Surface/J Records.
Yung has since been featured on several multi-platinum albums. He was featured on the hit single “Down Bottom” with Drag-On and Juvenile, which was remixed for the chart topping album Ride or Die Vol. 1 a record label wide compilation by Ruff Ryder Records in 1999. Yung and Drag-On did another collab on “Trouble” a track from the album Hell and Back. He has also shared a Mic with Scarface, Snoop Dogg, and Jadakiss on the banger “World War III” from Ruff Ryder’s second compilation. Other highlights include a feature on Jadakiss’ debut solo album Kiss the Game Goodbye and Swizz Beatz’s compilation G.H.E.T.T.O. Stories.

His lyrical style is perhaps best described as a mixture of Tupac Shakur and DMX on ‘Southern Crunk Juice’. His first solo album, The Dirtiest Thirstiest was released in 2004 under J Records carrying a style and energy that only Yung could produce. This album had the track “Yung Wun Anthem” which was also featured on the soundtrack for EA Sports’ cult classic videogame, John Madden Football 2005.
With a background like this Yung Wun is equipped to carry any load, rip any beat, and hold down any label. Now with his most recent transformation as a performer and person, Yung Wun is trodding a new path, encouraging the next transformation, in a new environment at New Creations Records.

Ski training in Siberia, Russia - 80s

That's me jumping during training in Kluchi ski area, near Novosibirsk, Siberia. Check my web site: ski-instructor.us I'm now a professional ski instructor in Breckenridge Ski and Ride School, Colorado, USA.
My dad took the picture with his Zenith ET camera. The Novosibirsk region has only little hills (sopki) of up-to 900m, but further south, there's Altai with the biggest Mt. Belukha 4506m. Even without big mountains in the region, smaller scale skiing areas (including one right in the middle of Novosibirsk, along the metro train) are growing rapidly.

Expatintelligence

This site Expat Intelligence provides useful information about Hungary, Europe and other parts of the world. Very interesting topics like business, finance, government, health, insurance, jobs and travel information are provided about the Oceania, Africa, Asia, Caribbean as well as Latin America.
expatintel
When you click on Caribbean for example, it leads you to expat information which you ever want to know. They even attached a map and say something about its history, economy, travel requirements etc. Jobs is a good section to see the opportunities available. There are practical tips about finding contract jobs overseas and how you can better your chances to land on one. Being a traveller ourselves, we like to look at the Travel section. As an expat, you will find the usefulness of the international relocation containers, export packing, storing and crating.

Up next is the international living costs in various cities. This site has listed down the advantages of living in a certain city you have selected and you might be moving to. You will most likely find the existing expat communities information beneficial for a head start. Some places have requirements to live and you need to apply before getting there. So this site provides the 'road less travelled' kind of valuable information and it is indeed a great resource. Furthermore, if you are looking for portals, it has a one stop page that lands you on finding out the informative and active websites for expats in Asia, in China or anywhere.
