Straight Talk

This post brought to you by Straight Talk. All opinions are 100% mine.

The thing about Straight Talk is it makes me feel empowered and most of all richer. I just love the idea as it makes me feel richer simply because my cell phone bill is cut into half. Those of you who are still on a contract nowadays must be crazy. After all, you can get everything you need without one at all. And being empowered means I can dream of buying other important things which I would need with the other half of the bill amount. In the long run, for the amount of money save from switching to Straight Talk, I am imagining to buy a new large screen TV for our living room.

Cell phone bill cut into half!

The benefits of this change of plan is that there are no contracts. So no surprise bills and no credit checks.

It has a great nationwide coverage and excellent reception/connectivity. Straight Talk only uses trusted phone manufacturers like LG, Motorola, Kyocera, Nokia and Samsung.

No contract. No extra charge.

The reason why I am sharing this on my blog now with you is that you can Feel Richer with Android just like me!

I am on their 'All You Need Plan' monthly plan as it meets my needs of a heavy phone user. This I mean I use 1,000 minutes, 1,000 texts and 30 MB of web data.

What is also amazing is that the 'Unlimited Monthly' service is only $45 (all calls, text, picture messaging and web, all inclusive). So for an entire year that works out to be only $499.00! And we are talking about UNLIMITED calls!

Having said these, those 411 calls are included at NO extra charge.

If it is a flat rate, it also means you are free from activation, reactivation or termination fees. Sometimes, Zannnie calls home to Singapore on International Long Distance. The benefit of Straight Talk International Long Distance Service is a flexible prepaid calling service that enables her to make international calls from our home, cell or office at low rates.

Those reconditioned phones as part of the phone selection are just from $10 with camera, mp3 player, mobile web access, and blue-tooth capability. Nowadays, all of us are using our phones pretty much like a young user especially when I blog about all the photos I take with the phone with the camera function on Budapest Daily Photo. Furthermore, the amazing features of the smart phones like touch screen phones, and app capable phones with features like voice navigation, camera, video recorder, music player, instant messaging, and Bluetooth®.

Hence, Straight Talk provides all the apps and games you need. It is a smart phone with a smart plan, and as always, no contract. I think this is The power of Android phones, at only $45/month for unlimited use.

Italy touring holidays

Rome

We have been traveling to several places and cities in Europe. The different place has its different charm and beauty. We like them in different ways and of course, we love italy.

For Italy touring holidays, we have been to Rome and Venice. We yearn for to go to Bologna once when Erika and Marco moved there from Rome, to see those ancient Byzantine mosaics of Ravenna and Modena. There are many hidden cities like this in Italy that is worth exploring.

Some days nearing the winter, we dream of traveling through the Alps. We like tranquility sometimes or rather most of the time. We like lakes and lush islands and for Italy, there is a lakeside resort of Locarno that is border to Switzerland that we are considering.
Rome
Zsolt loves the medieval history and a real Italian gem that is undiscovered as yet is the Cilento Coast, from the spectacular ruins of Paestum to a revered destination possibly like Lake Como. So many different ways to travel to Italy, as for our next Italy touring holiday, it can be via a cruise boat trip or a private boat. For me, I think I would like to see Pompeii, Herculaneum and Paestum and to the island of Ischia.

Shepherd's Pie with Egri Bikavér ("Bull's Blood of Eger")

It was Sunday and for lunch I decided to attempt the first time at the English 'Shepherd's Pie'.

Eva responded to my call on the Facebook when my status indicated that I was searching for a good recipe. Her recommendation was an American recipe. Shortly before we stepped out to the art movie theatre for 'Harry Brown', I caught a glimpse of the less than two minutes video by Gordon Ramsay. And I requested Zsolt to remind me to buy some cheese as well as a bottle of red wine.

We thought 'Harry Brown' was a good English art movie. It was more like a thriller. (a little about the movie in the next post). Walking on our way home, it was chilly as the real Autumn in Budapest is finally here. I chose a bottle of dry red wine: Egri Bikavér ("Bull's Blood of Eger").

To be honest, I am not really good in picking wine for cooking. This was the first time buying it without a Hungarian reading the label for me. I tried anyway.

As this wine from the infamous Eger is an internationally known wine, it has a nice 'Superbrands' label. So it comes with English description about how the 'Bull's blood' comes from.
Quite useful information for an amateur cook like me :)

With a little modification, I made the Shepherd's Pie. Shall I call it the cottage pie instead? Actually I didn't use lamb. It was minced meat (pork) but for pork it is great to go with a red wine. The next substitute that made this first attempt turned out great was the Gouda cheese I think. From our last trip, I learned that Gouda is a cheese specially from Holland. And it turned out really creamy and good.

Shepherd's Pie is quite easy to make (in my opinion as a first timer making it). Zsolt's verdict was 10/10, quite good for a first attempt! :)

I also didn't add the tomato puree as required in the recipe. Instead, I added tomato ketchup even though I bought tomato puree almost ready to add them for this dish. But I held back and thought maybe next time. So that was one of the less risky risk I took :)
DSC07237

The first steps was to dice the carrots and onions. I just added a medium sized carrot and one medium sized onion. I sauteed them and added some minced garlic. My grandmother-in-law bought me a special garlic mincer and it had been such a great tool for me ever since our wedding day.

Then add the minced meat and thyme. I also seasoned it with salt and pinch of pepper. The entire mixture started to give a very nice aroma that filled the entire kitchen. It was the green peas and wine next.

While this part was simmering away, I was peeling the skins of the potatoes to make mashed potato for the pie's top crust.

It was the most tedious to make mashed potato, but it was well worth the effort.

The American recipes ask to add 'Half and Half' cream. It is a half whole milk and half cream. And usually, I substituted it with the Hungarian Sour Cream which never go wrong! ;) Do I have to say more? The sour cream is always so delicious and yummy.

So the assembling part is to put the minced meat mixture and top it with the mashed potatoes. Final topping is the grated cheese :) and 'viola!'

I baked it for 20 minutes at about 200ºC and this is the result of my first Shepherd's Pie. Delish!

Harry Brown

Today I went to see Harry Brown starring Micheal Cain. The English Gran Torino.... Or Gran Torino is the American Harry Brown? I don't know...

  Micheal Cain

The first movie of this kind was Death Wish with Charles Bronson for me. The same story. Slum in the big city, gangs and poor, powerless community around them who became the victim of the violence. Impotant authorities especially police. When they finally intervene is too late or make things even worse. When I watched Charles Bronson's Death Wish in the '80s on VHS it was a pretty fiction to me. Like a bad dream which was very far away from my reality. Today I had a feeling that this is age is coming soon. We are after the London riots, people are demonstrating in New York against the wealthy part of the society. In my country the tension is very alive between minorities like gypsies and between the majority of the public. I am a bit concerned that movies like these are not fictions anymore.

How to Discover Endless Blogging Topics

How to have Endless Blogging Topics?
How to Discover Endless Blogging Topics

It is a relatively common problem when bloggers run out of ideas for the topics to write on. To me, this is solvable problem. Today, in this post, I am going to share some ideas on how to have endless yet fun topics to blog about.

If you embrace a topic you are seriously passionate about, you can be sure that you can write about it endlessly. I really mean endlessly. A good example is, I love cooking and baking (you should really see this as I've got 12 LIKES so far, it's probably because it's the Wicked Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies), so I blog about the types of food, the recipes I am curious about. Furthermore, photography is one of my passion, and the combination of photos of such delicious food is simply irresistible. The biggest clue is to blog about something you really enjoy doing. Those who read about it can sense straight away that it is real, it is genuine. And this is a virtue of a blog.

Sharing. If you share an encounter is a great method too. Zsolt and I share our experiences about living in a city. Living in the Budapest city or even other parts of the world. I have live in Singapore for several decades and Zsolt has live in Budapest for several decades too. We have indeed a lot about the cities to share. Even, considering a new would-be 'Budapest City dweller', you can write down some possible concerns and these avenues can spark off endless amazing ideas one after another...

Commonly asked questions. One of the most frequently asked question (to me Zannnie) is, what are the differences of living in Singapore versus Budapest. I have so much to say and living in Budapest for about four years is not the longest. Neither is it the shortest time period to be able to say something honestly. So I made a comparison about the cost of living in Budapest vs Singapore. Altogether, I found three plus one part, totally 4 parts! How amazing did it get?

Well, check it and you will see. How ideas can flow when you write a sequel post. Some of the sequel posts have three parts. The usual guide of my post is about 350 words. I think when it is too long, people do not really spend the entire time reading the entire post. So that is when photography of the relevant elements about the post helps. The other is the tone of my writing. I limit it to as if you are right next to me, and I am speaking to you. In this way, the delivery of my written expression is simple, easy to read. Of course, once in a while, I do have an interesting new word that is more unique than usual to share ;). At other times, I write down my movie/film review.

Humbly, if you have better ideas, I hope you will share with us too :)

Interview with J-Hype

J-Hype is a singer/songwriter/producer from New York City. He just released his new EP "There With You" on iTunes. Check out our interview with him:

2-touchedup

What kind of musical instruments do you play?

Piano, drums, bass, and guitar. I'm also a beast on the shakers. I can shake with the best of them. (laughs)

Who is your favourite musician of all time?

It's hard to choose just one. I've been influenced by many different musicians. I'll narrow it down to three artists/groups: The Beatles, The Neptunes, and Stevie Wonder.

You released a version of John Lennon’s “Imagine” that ended up being featured on USAToday.com. How did that come about?

I released a version of "Imagine" last year as a tribute to John Lennon, RIP, right around the time of what would have been his 70th birthday. A blog posted an article and it wound up getting picked up in the USAToday.com news feed. I was pumped!

What instrument do you use to write your songs?

I prefer to write on the piano, but occasionally I'll write with the guitar. I wrote "Resonate" from my new 7-song EP There With You with my acoustic guitar.

What kind of sounds can listeners expect to hear on your new EP 'There With You'?

'There With You' contains a lot of different sounds. "Boomerang" is an R&B/club banger. I'd classify both "Phenomenal" and "Heart On My Sleeve" as soul/piano-rock hybrids. "I'm There With You" is a straight up pop ballad. I wanted to put together an EP that shows a lot of different sides of me both musically and lyrically. I think fans will dig it.

Check out the EP promo video

J-Hype's 7-song EP 'There With You' is available on iTunes, as well as in CD format worldwide.
